Kansas City has proved to be the most popular spot for a potential
casino.
The deadline for applications for the fourth and final gaming zone
of Northeast Kansas was 5 pm Monday. The Kansas Lottery says it
received six applications to locate a resort casino in Wyandotte
County.
Three of them came in Monday - two from Sands Kansas LLC and one
from Legends Sun. Also interested in locating a casino in Wyandotte
County are Golden Gaming, Pinnacle Entertainment and Kansas
Entertainment LLC.
Earlier this year, lawmakers approved up to four casinos, one each
for four locations. Deadlines for the other three zones were
earlier in December.
In the Southeast gaming zone, the Lottery says it received one
application by the December 6th deadline. It was from Penn National
Gaming for Cherokee County. Crawford County was also included in
the Southeast zone.
The Southwest gaming zone had a December 26th deadline. Two
applications came in for Ford County. Those are from Butler
National Corporation and Dodge City Resort & Gaming Company
LLC. A third application came in from Epic Gaming after the
deadline. Epic is appealing to the Lottery to allow it to be
considered.
The South Central gaming zone of Sumner County had a December 28th
deadline for applications. Four were submitted. MGM Mirage and
Foxwoods Development Co.; Sumner Gaming Joint Venture, L.C.; Penn
National Gaming, Inc.; and Marvel Gaming are behind the
applications.
The Lottery now has 90 days from each zone's deadline to review
applications and negotiate contracts. Any contracts reached will be
forwarded to the Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board. The Board
may give final approval to only one facility for each zone.
